Bob,

Can't answer all your questions, but I know Craig Jones at Schaumburg
Audi was either offering (for fee of course) repainted speedlines (or
offering to repaint) for Coupe/20V owners. As I recall, entire wheel
was not repainted, only the outer lip of the wheel to the outer edge of
the dummy head bolt circle. The one I saw was repainted in a gray
similar to the gray metallic audi paint. Not as shiny as the orig
clear-coated aluminum, but did look decent compared to the way the
speedlines can look after a few miles. Sorry I don't have the number
handy, but you can call 411 for Schaumburg, Illinois to get it.

Also, Audi recoginized that the clearcoat on the speedlines was a
problem with some lots. The issued a tech bulletin covering this,
replacing wheels with the clearcoat flaking etc. Don't know if your
car is still within warranty, but you can try to finagle a set out of
your local dealer. Talked with a dealer here in chicago. They said
replacement speedlines are about $500 each. Although I bought my car
from a private owner, and it was out of warranty, they offered to pay
for 2 if I bought 2. Not too bad a deal, I suppose, but I decided I
could get a new set of Borbet C's plus a set of tires for about $200
more. The audi bulletin was "Group 44 Bulletin 91-02" dated 4-30-91.
You might try and get a copy before approaching your dealer.

Hope this helps.

later,

Andre
