Re: California Screaming
Hey Eric
Instead of shouting your opinion, why dont you get some facts (other than
my mates rabbit roached his fuel pump after only one race)?
Avgas is blended to much higher specs than auto fuel. The particular blend
varies considerably between suppliers and between locations. The fuel that
I buy in Queensland (tropical climate) is a different fuel to that supplied
down south.
That being the case I cannot say that the fuel available in the US is
suitable for use in Audis. However avgas is in widespread use throughout
rural Australia. This is particularly true in many remote communities in
the top end. These communities have had in the past a major problem with
petrol sniffing. In response to this problem, they now run all non diesel
internal combustion engines on avgas, and have done so for the last 4-5
years. It should be pointed out that these communities are in locations
where breakdowns can be life threatening.
It is also a common fuel at any club race day/rally etc in fact anywhere
its not specifically outlawed or the competition is at a level where they
can afford something better.
If it would help I can obtain the specs for the avgas sold in Oz,( the tech
people at Shell & Mobil are quite helpful over here) so that you can
compare with whats available in the states.
I am not advocating that everyone should run out to the airport & fill up,
but avgas has filled a need for me over the last 18 years, so I believe
that it is worth investigating on a rational basis.
