Needed - Good Service Technician

Hello All,

Just wanted to thank everyone that responded to my request for advice on the
"playing card in the spokes of a bicycle" noise coming from my 1994 90 CSQs.
Took the list of things to my service guy and........ well, nothing was fixed
or diagnosed.

Just picked up the car yesterday. The problem is still there. Fourth visit
for this problem now. Tech doesn't know what's making the sound but he wants
to replace the glove box???? Took him for a second ride to hear the noise.
This guy's the only tech at the dealership and my feelings are he's either
over-worked, underqualified, or just doesn't care because he's the only one in
house. Probably all three. The only thing he's told me is that it's not this
or not that (driveline, wheel bearings, CV joints, stone in tires, ABS sensor,
brake cable etc...). He hasn't been able to tell me what it is though. He
suggested normal quattro noise???? If it's normal, then what's making the
sound?

All of this is taking place even after I've met with the Eastern Regional
District Service Manager for Audi. The guy's name is Rolf Taenzer. Service
tech claims he's acting on Rolf's recommendation/order to replace the glove
box. Es gibt nicht die problem! Has anyone dealt with Rolf in the past?

I plan on writing Audi Customer Relations a letter documenting the problem
further and that the process I'm following so far isn't fixing the noise my
car is making. Basically, I'M going to make some noise. I also plan on
finding out what other options are available to me like taking it to a private
shop, or having an Audi engineer drive and test the car, or what happens if
something catastrophic happens after the warantee expires. Has anyone
researched or had any experience in exploring these options?

I'm definitely taking the car to another (3rd one now) dealership. I reside
in New Jersey, and would like to know if anyone can recommend a dealership in
this area that they are satisfied with and can count on for good service and
proper diagnosis of problems. I plan on keeping the car for as long as
possible and am interested in having a good relationship with a service tech
and/or department (Is this possible today or am I just an automotive service
idealist?). I am also considering taking the car to a private service shop
for a diagnosis. Any recommendations in the New Jersey area would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks very much.

Paul Lewandowski
