Biela back on top

Following Audi's successful appeal against the penalties imposed at
Brands Hatch, Frank Biela is reinstated as leader of the Auto Trader RAC
Touring Car Championship. Audi also regains the lead in the
manufacturers' championship.

Biela had been excluded from the results of round four at Brands Hatch
following the protest from Vauxhall over the front suspension fitted to
the pace-setting A4. Vauxhall's protest was upheld by officials at the
race track, excluding both Biela and Audi from the results of round four
and penalising them the mandatory two maximum scores (a total of 30
points).

Audi appealed this decision and today presented further written evidence
from the FIA in Paris to an RACMSA Technical Tribunal; this crucial
evidence which proved the A4 to be legal was not originally available at
Brands Hatch. As a result, Biela and Audi are reinstated in the results
of round four - where Biela finished fourth, gaining eight points - and
the 30-point penalty is withdrawn.

As the BTCC teams head to Thruxton, where rounds five and six take place
on Monday (May 6), the revised Auto Trader championship points are as
follows:
Drivers: 1 Frank Biela, 54; 2 Alain Menu, 5; =3 Jo Winkelhock & Rickard
Rydell, 29; 5 Will Hoy, 24. Manufacturers: 1 Audi, 53; 2 Renault, 48; 3
Volvo, 38; 4 BMW, 37; 5 Vauxhall, 27; =6 Ford & Peugeot, 16; 8 Honda,
14.
