i have also been told the same thing by a salesman (who is as much a Q
enthusiast as any of us) but the official line from the dealer is that
pricing for new models are never determined very much ahead of time.
a lot of last minute changes in pricing are done just before release.

but seeing that base a4 v6 starts out at $26K, it is not at all
implausible that the 4 cylinder model will start out in the lower
20s, especially if they strip out the luxo crap.

seeing that a4s are starting to sell really well, that would mean that
their unit cost will be dropping (because the fixed certification
costs are divided over each unit sold) which would mean that they can
price it more competitively without hurting themselves too much.

i really cannot see why anyone would want the horrid 318ti over the a4
1.8TQ for anything other than the nameplate.
