Hey Y'all,

A gift is a gift is a gift.  It doesn't matter to Unka Sam (or Unka Bart,
either for that matter) what the purpose of the gift is.  As long as it is
below a certain (fairly generous) limit it is tax exempt.  It cannot,
however be a "gift" in payment for services rendered.  It must simply be a
gift with no expectation of return.
