Lets not confuse the issue.  Send Dan the money, check, money order, or cash (You will 
accept cash, won't you Dan? ;) 

As Mr. Myers noted, "A gift is a gift is a gift."  Unka Sam doesn't care untill you 
*individually* exceed $10,000 *annually* to Dan.  (And if you give Dan that much I am 
sure he will pay the taxes).  Remember, this is a gift, *NOT* payment for goods or 
services.

Besides, how many people on this list are going to report the disbursement to the IRS?
