Rob,
I've always wondered the same thing. Last month I had the bushings on the
rear-diff subframe replaced and the shop didn't replace the bolts (like
Bentley says). A week later one of them broke - had it replaced. A week
after that I discovered that another one of them was stripped. Took it
back and had all four of them replaced.
When I had the original work done I knew they didn't replace the bolts
but I was thinking the same thing you are, why bother? I'm not certain
what I learned from this because I'm not sure if was the shop
over-tightening the bolts or the wisdom of the shop manual shining
through. In the end it's probably not worth skimping on considering the
cost of bolts.
Curious to see what others think.
