5k strut replacement - easy!
Well, I just changed the dead as a door nail original front struts on our
'84 5k wagon. After changing the oil, this must be the easiest maintenance
item to do on these cars. It took a little under an hour to do. This time
includes walking out to the garage, getting the tools out, putting the
fender protector on the car, removing the old and installing the new,
washing up, and going back into the house!
This is the second 5k I've done. I'm so glad I bit the bullet and bought
the special tool to take the inserts out from the top without removing the
strut assembly. Our V8 gets new front struts this weekend! (Our V8 has had
the brake conversion which also entails replacing the strut assemblies with
those of the '89 200s, so I can use "the tool.")
One bad note though. I noticed that ps fluid leaking from the bomb (which
is dead as a door nail too) has broken down the rubber of my left front
subframe bushing. How hard are these to replace? It looks straightforward.
