So what's the correct answer worth to you?.......   'Cause I can fix the 
problem BTDT in my '81 coupe......

Under your fuse box is a inline fuse holder that is black and has (I 
think) red wires going to/from it this is the root of your problems.  
Check for corrision or flexed to death wires.  I got rid of that nasty 
fuse and ran a circut breaker in it's place.
