Drilled out Catalytic Converters

Has anyone ever tried to drill out all the filaments in their old cat
in their Audi and tried to pass an emission test?

I had a 86 GTI and the cat got clogged. I drilled out the material
inside the cat (ceramic material) and sucked all the debris out. I
hooked the rest of the exhaust system back on and went to the state
inspection station to get the emission tested. The car passed with no
problem at all. In fact, the emissions were well below the allowable.
The exhaust noise was slightly louder, the multi-function computer
showed poor fuel economy (but by hand calculations, I was getting over
30 MPG), and the car felt slightly quicker (probably due to less
restrictd exhaust flow). I ended up saving $900 for an OEM cat ($200
aftermarket cat). The car continued to pass emission tests for the
next 5 years until I sold the car for $1300 (184k miles).

I was told by some mechanics that many cars today meet or exceed
emission standards without cats, but the Federal Regulations require
all cars to have cats no matter what.

Before this Eric Fletcher thing wings out of control, a few
points that should be considered:

Within the past 7 days, I have witnessed the following with
regard to Eric.

	(1) While we were racing [in his home town I might add] on some
Indy car video thing [pretty cool] he cheated in order to win.
At one point, he even turned his car around, driving the wrong
way around the track in order to create havoc and some hellish
	collisions;

	(2) When I called to order some Cool Carbon brake pads, the guy
said "oh, well, yeah, I'll have to order some. Be about 3 weeks".
I asked, what, you don't have them in stock? "Well, usually,
yes, but Eric Fletcher just bought all that I had".

Now, in fairness to Eric, he did put a suspension under my car
that made the thing ride great and corner like it is on rails, BUT, what he
didn't tell me is that I would have to double the HP of my car to really
be able to push the suspension envelope. So, now I'm talking with
another expert [yes, Peter, he seems to me to be an expert] (PDQSHIP)
about turbo mods.

So, Eric cheats at video games, buys up all the brake pads that I
need, and puts a suspension on my car that makes my motor feel weak. I
ask you, god or just a pretty damn good imposter?

BTW Eric, is there any truth to that rumor about you and a
certain brunette on the set of Friends? If so, then yes, you may be a god.
