Yes, unfortunately you need to buy the whole lower control arm if you are
talking about a 5000s. I got one of mine replaced when I used to own an 
85' 5000s. I think the dealer price at least back about 4 years ago was
around $230 for each arm. The balljoint is part of the arm it's not like the 
VW jetta/golf which is attached to the arm with 3 bolts. The smaller newer
post 88' 80/90 Audi has an A-arm similar to the VW setup in which the balljoint
is attached with 3 bolts.
