Timing vs boost

Just a small thing,

It is a safe guess that Audi dailed in a pretty mild timing curve for a stock
turbo I5. The say run premium but you know some people won't. And they want
the car to last.

My '88 had only 4-5 (1.3-1.4 bar) psi boost stock. It is now at 1.8-1.9 with a
charlie spring and $.40 washers. No pinging yet so you know the stock curve is
lame. Stock boost is tripled.

To up the boost AND add timing may work for some with good gas. Also remember
that the UrQs had only 7.0:1 compression right? Mine has 7.8:1 and the later
'89-90s had 8.4:1? So when a urQ guy says 18psi is good for them doubt it with
an '89. I would. Be careful.

But those with a bigger/better turbo can move as much air as stock turbo at a
lower temp and lower boost level. Less chance of detonation with that.

So the tame timing when stock is not so tame when adding boost. Just a
reminder.

Also with all disclaimers etc. At Continental Motors in Fairfield CT. they
have the following

White w/black interior 90 Sport with the 20 valve. $14,995.

Also for the project minded an '87 5ktq. 164k miles and pretty ratty. Wants it
gone. $2000.00
