Hi Gang,
Well, Ihope all of you have been well, and that your various Audi's
made it through the winter without too many trips to the shrine of the Audi
gods. I have been out of the country since January and I started looking
through the archives, but, geez folks, you have been prolific!!! There must be
5 or 6 thousand posts since I left!!! So to make a long question short: has
anything really interesting happened while I was away??? Has there been any new
development in the "go faster" department?? How has turbo and chip upgrading
been progressing? How about suspension and brake development. I had installed
one of Charlie Smith's WG springs just before I left for Africa and it made a
world of difference in my '87 5KCSQ, but I had to ground out the fuel pump
relay, a solution to the 1.5 bar overboost protection shutdown that I don't
like because of the obvious crash danger of spewing fuel. Has anyone found a
better way? I believe some of you were working on that when I left.
I saw no Audis in Kenya; the South Africans had plenty of 'em, but
badged them differently than we do (500 CL). I saw one 80 in South Korea, but
all non-Korean cars are very rare there; those folks do not import a lot of
finished product from anyone. That's one way to keep your balance of payments
in line. Oh, I've never seen more M-cars in my life than I saw in Cape Town;
just about every other Beemer was an "M"; also badged differently (M540i,
M325i, etc.)
My car sat for almost 4 months, but started on demand; one rear caliper
is sticking badily with the hand brake and the other is intermittently sticking
with the brake pedal, so rebuilt calipers have been ordered. Oh, I talked to
Linda at Carlson's about the the small shift linkage part from a 200 as a short
throw upgrade for the 5KCSQ; she said there is a difference in the length of
the piece between the two cars and some lister had ordered one, but never got
back to her on how it worked. If said "lister" is out there, or if anyone else
has tried this: HOW DOES IT WORK!! :-)
It's good to be home, happy motoring, and have a fine Memorial Day
weekend all!!!
