Thanks to those who replied to my query about getting the dash cluster 
out of my '84 5000s. It was as simple as finding the white speedo cable 
under the hood, giving a little slack, and there was enough room to get 
my hand behind the dash cluster to release the speedo cable.
 
I now have a working AND LIT UP digital clock. :)
 
Right now, I'm following someone else's suggestion of letting the idle 
stablizer valve soak in carburator cleaner for an hour. I figure I have 
nothing to lose. The valve is already dead, so what harm can the fluid 
do? :) I'll post the results tonight.
