Merc & Audi
Hiya y'all,
Some time ago there was a thread on the list about Mercs & Audis being
related in some way during the 70s. If I remember correctly, it was
dismissed at the time as being not true.
At the Audi Club meet in Amsterdam last Sat however, I heard this being
repeated.
Remembering the list discussion, I asked the guy for the lowdown.
His story: His father bought a 100 new in 1971. The family went to Spain on
holiday in it, where everyone thought they were rich people. This was
because, he said, Audis were sold in Spain under the Mercedes-Benz name,
however with the 4 rings still on the front. Strange story!
I have to assume this is true- I wouldn't know why the guy -sounded like a
certified car nut to me- would be misinformed or lying about this. To my
knowledge there is no local assembly of MB in Spain. There is a lot of
local car industry in Spain (VW builds the Polo and new Caddy there, for
instance) because of high import levies being applied on cars.
Does anyone know any more about this?
Tom.

Holly: Purple alert! Purple alert!
Lister: What's a purple alert?
Holly: Well, it's like not as bad as a red a alert, but a bit worse than a
blue alert -- sort of a mauve alert.
