Reno trip yesterday and no A/C ouch!

there would be a bunch . Nice drive except for the A/C . The blasted 
thing would come on for the first hour of the trip then shut off. No 
more A/C till the evening when we left. It seems to work when its cool 
outside. Any ideas?
