I was at Road America Memorial weekend ('84 911) and a fellow from Florida
totaled his '96 993 Turbo. Apparently, he got two wheels off on the long
straight going into 5. He popped back on the track, spun and went backwards
into the left-hand side wall between 4 & 5. He hit the wall so hard the first
concrete barrier moved but since he was coming in at an angle when he hit the
second concrete barrier it just sheared off the right-hand side. Was a
beautiful car - looked at it at tech the night before. Very expensive lesson
for him. For the rest of you - When you are on the track and are being
passed DO NOT pull too far to the right - and if you do put two wheels off -
slow down! before getting back on the track. That was that guy's only
mistake and it cost him at least $100K and a day in the hospital (and
probably an unhappy wife and insurance company).

Dunno 'bout the spousal unit, but I'm pretty sure the insurance company
couldn't care less, since in general they don't cover "off road" (e.g.,
"racing", "track", "events", etc.) usage, so yeah, it prolly cost the
guy $100K out of pocket . . . ouch!
