Take it to someone who works on Audi's. Not taking away anything
from your mechanic, but, all brands have their quirks and
problems common only to certain models/marques. Using a
mechanic who's on step one of the "Audi learning curve" (TM),
     gets expensive.

Well, first thing I'd check, before anything else would
be the state of the catalytic converter. In the 5KS they
have a tendency to come apart internally, and then all
the oddly shaped kitty parts move around and block the
exhause at different times. When the Kitty on my
former 5KS (now wifes) came apart, I experienced similar
problems, plus the car would die on left hand tight turns.
When it plugged up solid, and it wouldn't start at all,
I removed the Oxygen Sensor (with vice grips...well..I
never took the "always prepared" boy scout oath.) and
     managed to get home.
Give it a try, if the car starts after you pull the oxy sensor,
     then the exhaust is plugged.
     Worth a try, good luck.
