Jimi Hendrix does my Dinger!!!

You know that "ding...ding...ding" warning we get, if a door is left
ajar....well here's a variation on it. For no apparent reason my "dinger" now
sounds all the time at a very low, but audible level. In addition,it is a
different sound than the usual "dinging"-muffled and sort of like those
euro-police sirens-almost sounds like it's playing backwards-like Hendrix on
my dinger!

 It still functions with the usual sounds for the usual reasons. The
backwards dinging starts once the engine has started, continues after
ignition turned off, and stays on till the key is removed.

Anyone with a clue on this one before I begin poking around?
