Gotta laugh at this...any fool who puts nitrous on permanently without
doing some MAJOR engine modifications (lower compression/metal head
gasket etc..etc..) is just ASKING for trouble.

I find in general nitrous gets a bad rap, usually from the yahoos who put
150hp kits on their otherwise stock blocks/heads, then complain when
their internals blow to crap. A well prepared/installed nitrous system,
with a progressive/time based jetting is a very powerful and reliable
performance upgrade. The installation should be akin to adding a
turbocharger to an engine... you have to restrain yourself from jetting
too high. (Adding too much boost), and the internal in the engine must be
up to snuff.

I have seen several vehicles which have run on nitrous for years(100+
drag strip runs, little to no internal engine mods), and have never had
their heads off. Installed correctly and jetted realistically, nitrous
should be at least as reliable as a turbo installation, maybe more so
considering the lack of complexity involved in the actual hardware.

Nitrous combined with a turbo installation is an extremely attractive
option. The nitrous would be set to come on low, before the turbo boost
builds (allowing for a larger compressor wheel and more boost). This
would also allow the turbo too build boost very quickly, and since
nitrous is injected at a extremely cold temperature (~125' F I think)
this would provide a secondary level of intercooling. Obviously the
nitrous would taper off when the boost comes up. This installation is by
no means simple, but would yield some tremendous results. NOS (the
nitrous supply forerunner) provides a kit specifically tailored to
turbocharged installations.

In all, nitrous is a viable and cost effective performance addition, just
don't go for the crazy 250hp shots!!
