BBS too big for their britches!
Quattristes,
Well, I got my "50 buck" BBSs, which are feeling a little smug,
more like 400 dollar BBSs, mounted on my 5KCSTQ tonight. To recap, they
are 15" x 7" with a 36mm offset (maybe 38mm, its hard to read) and they
are shod with Dunlop D60A2s per Eric's advice. And, now I can see
those expensive drilled rotors alot better, so it's all worthwhile! ;-)
Some of the more astute among us might notice that this offset
places the outside of the tire _really_ close to the inside of the rear
wheelwell. As a matter of fact, there is a grand total of about 1.5mm
clearance between the two pieces. :-) That's OK though, because a miss
is as good as a mile, or so I am told by an engineer who used to work on
the Chevy Intrepid GTP car. :-)
In this case, I think I'll be OK, because the natural forces at
work on the rear tires will push the tire inboard anytime it is close to
the wheelwell.
One of the BIG positive aspects to this whole wheel deal, is that
I managed to install studs instead of the bolts that normally hold the
wheels to the hub. That is a big bonus to me at least, because I detest
wheel bolts. Expensive, but nice.
The wheels are painted Zermatt silver like the rest of my Q, and
look great on the car. They really fill up the wheel wells! The track
is a little wider, and the suspension seems to be working even better. I
expect to get the suspension properly aligned on Monday night. I'll
report driving impressions after that.
