British Audi Specialists

Hi y'all,

Well, that was that, my extremely short vacation in Britain is over. The
weather was great and I've seen some beautiful bits of countryside. No Audi
scrapyards though, one week was too sort for that and I didn't want to
bother my traveling companion too much with my car obsession. I noticed
quite a lot more quattros on the road as compared to Holland. I couldn't
think of any place where they would be more fun to drive, with all those
hills and small country roads. Driving in the UK really is fun!
Unfortunately the trunk of my Audi 80 is too small to take all the stuff
needed, so we went in my brother's N*ss*n Primera, converted to run on LPG.

Of course I didn't completely ignore any Audi stuff while I was there. I
bought VW Audi Car magazine there, which is a great mag. Wish I could get
it in Holland! Beside some great stories about the Golf GTI (21 years old
this year) there was a nice item about buying an '80s Audi coupe GT used
and a lot about parts specialists. Apparently the UK has quite a number of
non-franchised VW/Audi specialists. If anyone's interested, I'll mail the
list. I could do a sum-up of the most important stuff from the coupe
article as well, if anyone's interested. Perhaps it would make interesting
stuff for the archives, a sort of 'buying advice' for anyone looking for a
used Audi.

Meanwhile, reading all this stuff about mid-seventies Golf GTIs made me
remember how great they were. If I had a garage to put it in, I'd buy one.
They're really cheap here now but I think that's going to change within a
year. At the moment it's still possible to find a nice example that hasn't
been mucked about with for a decent amount of money, but they're starting
to appreciate already. There's quite an active GTI club in Holland, and I'd
love to be part of that.

Still looking for OE (Ronal?) 6Jx14 alloy wheels for my 1988 80. Oh well,
I'd better start calling scrapyards to see if they've got anything...

Tom.
