One Lap Report

Just got back from the Putnam Raceway Park. Got there about
noon, some cars already there, others trickled in.

Had a great time w/ our Audi brothers, Alan Tackman and Phil Catalano.

Alan drives an S6 wagon. Dark blue, Borbet wheels, V8? brake
assem., Hoppen susp., chip, intake, etc. Beautiful car--absolutely
terrific guy. Walked the track with him before the event [dry as a bone
by race time--rained 5 minutes later] Alan is running neck and neck in
this thing w/ a wickedly $$$$$$$$ Rentec Benz.

Phil drives a pearl S6 sedan. Bigger? Garrett turbo, intake,
suspension, chip & box, 3 inch stainless exhaust, header, etc. All parts
from TAP. Great looking car--super nice guy. Said he is stopping past
Scott J's to do some Koni tuning tonight.

If you are close by any of the track events--GO MEET THESE GUYS.
Couldn't ask for nicer people.

BTW, Brock Yates was his cool self. Puts on no show when you
talk to him, yes, another nice guy.

Now to the remaining 93 cars. Some badass stuff here boys. The
Biturbo 911's must be witnessed on the track to believe. Fast, Fast,
Fast. Event is setup where they take 5 cars to the track [somewhat in
order of speed in last track event] cars get 1 warmup lap, 2 hot laps, 1
cool down. Drop the flag about 25 feet from the eye measuring time.
Both Biturbo's were banging the hell out of the rev limiter through the
1st 3 gears. Had another 911 that had raced Sebring, put street tread
and a plate on it--good to go. Couple of Carrera 4's that show well.
Btw, the cars are lined up and 1 is let loose every 10 seconds. Biturbo
in 1st gained a little on the Pontiac Firebird [L'felter] but not much.
Pontiac sounded as though it had straight cut gears--had to be pushed for
reverse. This thing flat flew. 3rd place Biturbo really didn't gain
much, if any on the Pontiac.

The Rentec was pretty neat. Coil-overs, rumored to be in the 500
Hp range, and acted like it. IMHO, not driven as well as the Porsche
cars, the Pontiac or a couple of Vettes [ZR1].

Very impressive was a Volvo 740 turbo wag w/ a 5.0 Ford in the
bay. Hole shot of about 25 feet, grabbing rubber through 2 gears.
Driven very well and very flat. What a sleeper.

Best fun to watch was a Turbo Supra that just cooked up on a
Camaro on the last turn. Had made up 10 sec on 1st lap!!! Beautiful
side by side racing -- for a very short time. No way was this car stock.

This is a 9 turn track that will bite your ars. 2 older Vettes
found the gravel and mud outside turn 8 --hard left hand downhill turn.

Well, I could go on, but...just go see this at a track near you.
Some amazing cars [ie. an old Valiant that is REALLY built--it gave up
nothing to a couple of ZR1's it ran between]; Supercharged Miata, some
really quick Golfs, etc. BTW, Lynn St. James was there driving the new
Mercury Explorer twin. Thing had really been worked over, and, the rumor
that Ms. St. James causes wrecks everytime she gets near Indy is not
true. At least no wreck today.

	Go see those Audi Boys!!!
