When I was in the One Lap of America back in 1986, Uniroyal was the tire 
sponser.  They had an entry that ran the entire 8800 miles on a space saver 
spare.  As I recall they ran all the the TSD rally sections as well as the 
transit runs on this one spare.  I don't remember how they finished, but I do 
remember them finishing on the same tire they started on.  I think he tire 
was some semi-pneumatic type.
