OK, short descriptions:

The A4, A6 and A8 are the three main model lines from Audi (the A3
will be introduced in Europe this fall).

The A3 will be Audi's smallest model, based on the same floorpan as the
upcoming 4th generation VW Golf. It will likely compete in the same
market as the BMW compact (318ti in the U.S.).

The A4 is a compact sedan that replaced the 80/90 model line.

The current A6 is Audi's mid-size sedan, essentally a rebasged 100
with minor facelift. The next generation A6 which is also due out
will be based on a stretched A4 platform.

The A8 is the large executive sedan competing against the MB S-class
and BMW 7-series. It is a spiritual successor to the Audi V8 but
unlike the V8 it is not based on the floorpan of the 100/200. It
has a revolutionary all-alumunium space-frame construction.

The 92-94 S4 is the "sport" version of the 100 with the turbo 20V five
engine. This model is slightly facelifted (at the same time as the
change of the 100 to the A6) and is renamed the S6. In Europe there
is also a V8 version of the S6.

There will be an upcoming "sport" version of the A4 (rumoured to
be equipped with a twin-turbo 30V V6) called the S4.

The S8 is the "sport" version of the A8 with uprated engine and suspension,
and wears 18 inch wheels.
