Chips that go BOOOOOM in the night!

Over the last month or so I've seen a lot of postings regarding chips. The
consensus??? seems to be that TAP chips are no good......although only one
lister (that I saw) says they make an engine go BOOOOOOOOOM!

Frankly, unless you have a turbo and can get a 40% + boost in HP these chips
(assuming their advertising is true and accurate) are probably not worth the
money for only a 10% gain in HP.

Having said that, my NA 20V has a TAP chip installed, but will somebody tell
me why and how TAP chips are no good. What makes them no good and what,
exactly, do they do to an engine to make it go BOOOOOM!

I really would like to know. Presumably others would also. TIA
