Myself and another list member has this SAME EXACT PROBLEM with our I-5s!!
I could never figure out what was causing the noise.  It went away
immediately, however, following an oil change.  I came to the conclusion
that it could have been a cam journal not getting enough lubrication due to
dirty oil (the noise seemed to come from beneath the valve cover), or...who
knows what was going on.  The oil was only 3k old.  Could have been the Audi
gods just rattlin' my chain to make sure I was awake.  I have not heard even
a peep of it since...

I'm not sure what happened to the other fellows car; I'm not even sure if he
is still on this list...
