Water pump replacement, '87 5Kcst

Thanks to all who responded to my request for water pump pricing and
replacement information. This is the price breakdown:

Audi pump: $34.99, with "O" ring
Timing belt: $15.95
Tensioner: $34.00
Rental of 'special tool' to hold damper while removing bolt: $35.00

All items from Blaufergnugen, 1-800-683-2834. Manitowoc, WI.

Is it worth the money to rent the 'special tool', or is there a good
alternative? (Auto transmission, if that makes a difference.)

Car has 134K miles on it, should the tensioner be replaced? I don't know
the service history of the vehicle, and have not yet taken the cover off to
examine the belt or tensioner.
