I know THIS!!!! (pretty sure)
The wire running from the alternator (blue) to the dash lights (OXS and 
Voltage light) has probably gone bad or connector has gone bad.
I has the same exact problem on my 5000 and went through hours of 
trouble shooting over a 2inch long piece of wire, i now have a VDO
volt meter installed to keep an eye on the charging system.
