Audi Factory Tour - Actually Accomplished!

Just flew back from Frankfurt on USAir...

My advice: Never fly the airline if you can help it! They managed to totally
soak my suit, a blazer, and a leather jacket - all which are ruined. Both
pieces of luggage were soaked. Still waiting on word for compensation.

Anyway, I also stopped by Ingolstadt, took the A4 production tour, which was
quite cool. What was even better was the gift shop! Got a AudiSport watch,
t-shirt, leather key ring with the AudiSport insignia, and a couple of other
knick-knacks...

Also stopped by a dealer in Ingolstadt and bought the S2 front and rear
nameplates for the coupe - cost quite a bit though! ($ 65.00) Got a price on
the 1996 S2 headlights (projection): They're DM 511 ($ 334) apiece, with
everything, including wiring harness. Don't know about the levelling motors
though.

I drove ten hours straight from a town north of Aalborg, DK, maxing out the
A4 FWD 1.6 liter engine at 200-205 KmPH. Of course, I kept my speed to 125
KmPH in DK, as their speed limits are 110K....

But it was worth it!! Saw multitudes of S2 coupes in the lot - I really want
one! Too bad (according to two Ingolstadt dealers) they aren't making them
any more. But the Audi export person I talked to said they were still making
them (I guess he doesn't know that they aren't!). Anyway, they still are
making the Coupe - they had a brochure in the lobby of the AudiCenter...

One other note: The S6's that I saw have *all* the digital information on
their guage cluster, and the brochure showed a carbon fibre interior.

That's all for now...

PS: To the guy who told me to stay over in Europe as I claimed I wouldn't
mind paying the fuel taxes over there for *great* roads, I reply:

1. I intend to move to Europe within 3 years. I would have moved there
already.

2. I did take offense to how you put your statement, so **** off...I hope
you blow a tire on a "sinkhole" (pothole) in NJ!

3. The number of listmembers who have reported ruining rims and tires are
significant enough to cause alarm. Think of how much longer your
suspension parts would last
     with better roads.
