Robert,
I had explored this option in depth myself a couple of months ago. I was in the same situation, I could have
had a perfect '84 4KQ (sans engine and instrument cluster) for ~$300.
However, upon close inspection of the underside of both vehicles, I determined that the end cost for
fabrication would finance a good condition TQC with the potential for much more end power.
You'd need to raise the height of the center tunnel to about twice it's current size, remove a portion of the
rear pan to expose the structural beams that run the length of the car, mount the rear subframe, modify the
rear suspension mount point to take the different arrangement, relocate the fuel pump/filter assy. (might as
well add the 18 gal tank while you're in there), re-route brake lines, and build a custom exhaust system.
And that's only the summary I'm coming up with off of the top of my head! <grin> You can understand why
(even with myself doing all the labor for free) purchasing a decent condition TQC is a much more
cost-effective option. Plus there's the added benefit of ~160HP vs. 115-130HP right out of the box.
Let me know if I can answer any specific questions for you.
