Replace now. I had a same dilemma with another car but I did not replace. 
After a short time the resonator broke, so I did not save anything...
BTW, where you buy those mufflers for Audi? Seems to be cheap.
I also live in Canada, but could not find a cheap muffler source for my 88 90Q.
