I'm guessing, from the description of the "large phillips screws"
that the 90 Q uses the ZF pump, truely a pump of the Gods,
(Pentos, that is ).
Carlsen ( Linda ) used to sell a rebuild kit for about $25. If you
are careful, it is possible to rebuild the ZF pump sucessfully.
( Disclaimer needed... so far "sucessful" is close to two years,
and true sucess would need six or eight years to match the original. )
Perhaps the kit is not available anymore.
Those "X" screws are a real pain to get out, and you need to be
very careful to replace ALL the seals, ( except for two stupid
allen screws which seemed to be epoxied in on my pump, and have
not yet leaked ).
Other alternatives include;
Buy the pump from one of our discount Audi sources, Carlsen, Clair..
Buy a rebuilt pump, PAP usually will give you one for under $200.
Buy the kit and encourage a good mechanic, (or mechanically talented
friend ) to rebuild it for you.
Best of luck, whatever happens, I think should be able to solve this
problem for under $400....
