CRUISE...CONTROL?

On my 87 5KS I have cruise control, well, I don't know if I would go so 
far as to say "control".  What happened was the bar that runs across the 
top of the engine( if you pull on it the the engine revs up) I don't know 
the exact terminology but any of you with 5's should know, op[en the hood 
and iut's right THERE.
Anyway, there are actually 2 little bars or rods, whatever, that are 
connected together by a little rubber gasket-y thing which of course 
deteriorates into the brittle, audi-type part I am accustomed to dealing 
with on my car.  So one day it decided to fall off while I was on the 
freeway, an interesting event, I can assure you. And since then I  had 
them bound together with a wire, I've been to lazy to look for this part 
which I'm sure that Audi will not sell me without buying whatever it is 
sold as a part of--like a car.  any way anyone know a good place to get 
this thingy?

I wonder if Audi will ever make replacement parts available "a la carte"? 
I won't hold my breath.
