ing first.  You may end up needlessly spending money and not fixing the 
problem.  I believe that the defrost vents are the default output, making 
it such that if you lose vacuum to the A/C programmer you can still defrost 
the front window.  I don't know what kind of car you have, but the Bentley 
manual for the 5000 has a detailed procedure for troubleshooting the system.
Your problem may be as simple as a loss of vacuum or a line that has come 
off.
