Steering Fluid Leak: Follow-up

Thanks for all the intelligent replies, folks. Among other things, I now
know that:

1.) It's highly likely to be the rack.

2.) It may be possible to drive the car in this condition, but I should
get this fixed ASAP to take advantage of the warranty.

3.) The fluid I bought from the VW dealer was the right stuff (just a pint
bottle instead of a quart.)

The good news is that this morning I called the Audi service manager to
tell him that I struck out on getting someone to drive the car there today
and that I would have to do a complicated double trip over there (drive it
over, wait while they determine that it needs a new rack, drive home,
drive back when the rack comes in, wait until they fix it, drive home.) He
said, "Oh, well, you can use the new pickup and delivery service we have
to your town (lots of Audis here in my town.) I zoned out on that when we
spoke last time and forgot to tell you about it. Our man will drive a car
to your house, leave it with you to drive until your car is repaired, pick
up your car, drive it here, then return your car when fixed. Costs $6.75
per hour." (he didn't mention a fee on the loaner and I don't care -- any
reasonable price is fine, as long as *it's* not $6.75 an hour!) We're set
to do the swap next Monday.

Needless to say, this works out nicely for me. If all goes well, I'm back
in love with my Audi (and dealer) and might even buy one for my wife (will
the Quattro wagon ever come with a standard transmission?)

P.S. Why am I getting double posts on some (not all) messages from this
list?
