Your 81 coupe has the Bosch K-jetronic injection which has a
mechanical air flow sensor plate/fuel distributor unit on
your air box.  There is not an easy way to eliminate the air box and
substitute it with just a cone air filter like on the later
air-mass sensor cars.  I really doubt that the air box on your
car is where the bottleneck is anyway, as far as intake flow is
concerned.
