Drivetrain rumble, 5KCSTQ

Now that I've got new QUIETer tires, I can definitely hear a rumble, like a
train passing nearby, in the drivetrain.  It goes away when I lift off the
gas, doesn't change in relation to turns, and is present from say 40 mph up
thru 65 or 70.  It also is present whether I'm in 4th or 5th gear.  I'm not
real thrilled at the prospects that may lay ahead on this.  I don't recall
hearing this when I first purchased the car in May, '95.  It seems to have
started since then and gotten slowly more noticeable.  

Any ideas out there?
