Modifications / Liability of Selling
Past couple of weeks I have received several e-mails re:
Modifications made to autos and the liability / non-liability in later
accidents.
Guys [and gals], this is a *huge* subject. An exhaustive answer
would (1) depend on the state you live in (2) what you did (3) what you
disclosed (4) what finally happened (5)probably 2 million other things
*and* would bore the hell out of everybody. Sorry.
Short answer? Use common sense and be honest. If something is
wrong w/ the auto you are selling, or you have modified it, why not
disclose it to the buyer in writing and keep a copy for yourself? Have
the buyer sign off on the sheet, shake hands and go cash his *certified*
check:) Probably won't prevent every problem, but it will get you both a
long way down the road.
