I chickened out and had an upholstery shop reattach mine, and even they had
trouble.

I'd start by giving them a thorough treatment with Lexol cleaner and
conditioner (2 separate items) to make it more flexible. If you can figure
out how to get the leather off the seat, you could sew it with an awl, I
suppose. However this turns out, use Lexol regularly and you'll minimize
that type of problem. I pay special attention to seams when I treat my
leather, even under the seat covers.
I put good quality sheepskin covers on both my cars. They look good (match
the color properly) and are very comfortable in hot or cold weather. I
really don't like the way they slide around on the seat, but the urQ seats
have plenty of bolster to control that, and the other car doesn't matter as
much.

Sounds as if your vacuum pump has gone south. The tubing interconnecting
the system can create some interesting special effects when that happens.
I've heard someone sprayed WD40 (I think) into his pump and it's worked
since. I took mine apart when it failed, and spent much time trying to fix
it. I ended up replacing it. Big $$ new.
