I had the same problem this summer...I took it to the dealer, and they
diagnosed a leaking a/c condenser and accumulator...I guess it's time to
replace those parts! After they just recycled the freon, the system was
putting out much better (colder), but it's started to do the same thing
again...I guess they're right!

BTW Peter Schultz said that he had a problem with some parts wearing when
they rubbed against each other...Peter, did that involve the a/c system??
