BMW Pressure Accumulator on an '88 Audi 5000TQW?

Hi All,

My '88 TQW is exhibiting the classic signs of a failing brake bomb. 
Telephone inquiries to a couple of parts vendors about the price of
a replacement yielded the following:

Carlsen Audi: $339
Halsey Imports: $293

However, a call to another local (Portland, OR) import auto parts 
store provided some interesting information that I wanted to run
by the list.  The parts guy at this shop claimed that I can use
the pressure accumulator for a 7-series BMW in this application,
for a price of $118(!).  If this is true, it is obviously an
attractive alternative.  Has anyone done this substitution? (or
heard of anyone who has?)
