Approximately $190US parts on an 86 5KTQ a year ago.  Same price for an 84 5K 
a year before that.  Same pump. 89 200 might be different if it is Motronic, 
not sure.  Can be bought from after market suppliers, non audi.  The 
replacement job is not hard, but messy and I'd rate it a 1.5 knuckle job.  
Access is not too hard, from the trunk. Safety is an issue.  Tank should be 
low on fuel for easiest/safest access.  No special tools, though removing the 
big retaining ring should be done with a soft hammer and nonmetalic punch like 
tool.  First time should take about 1-3 hrs depending on your expertise.  The 
audi labor is probably 1.5 hrs or less.  There is recent history on the list 
covering specifics on this job.
