Re: 93 CS Q Wagon
I discovered the source of the 'fog-horn' hum from the right rear of my Audi: it's the fuel pump. Hope this is not the
case with yours, but I learned that driving low on gas such that the pump can run dry will cause it to develop a pretty good
hum. This is probably true of many other fuel-injection cars. I was told once it starts humming it needs to be replaced, but
I drove mine 20k miles before local boats started heading away from me-- it got progressively louder.
The stereo (and most every other electric contact) on my car needs a periodic attack of contact cleaner. This stuff
works great on poor contacts (maybe your stereo??). Don't spray it on the surrounding plastics though. Also, some
switches like the electric mirror joystick, for example, are floating in an electronic jelly (can't remember what it's called, got
some at the local auto parts store for a buck). You would'nt want to spray contact cleaner in there, it'd disolve the jelly.
One last thought: I do my own oil changes, this Audi is the easiest car I've ever done. My record time is 7 minutes.
Once you get the supplies ready and a script for performing the job, it's a breeze. And I've always felt that 2000 to 2500
miles is what my car needs (I go through a lot of farm dust and dirt roads). My Audi still purrs down the highway at 85
mph after a quarter-million miles: I'm convinced it's because of clean and topped-off oil.

perform as well in the reliability category.
