lowering springs

I want to get my 93 100S lowered about 1.25 inches. I figure that would
reduce fender gap and give me enough clearance on the road.

But I've heard that just getting lowering springs isn't good for the
car, and that I should also get new shocks as well. Is this true?

Also I got quoted $387 for the job comprising of Eibach springs and
labor. Does that sound fair? If not does anyone know of any reputable
shops in the Washington D.C. /Baltimore area that does such jobs?

Thanks in advance
