OIL FILTERS: AGAIN!!
Hi Folks,
I too have been following the group's discussion on oil filters and here
is my 2 and at least a half a cent.
1. Some time ago..a few years...Consumer reports tested a wide variety
of filters and although I don't remember which ones....I DO
remember this....
FRAM absolutely blew away all comers when it came to it's
ability to filter out the junk...which Consumer reports
measured down to the ..nth degree.
2. I have put more than a half million miles on just two cars in the past
eleven years (A VW Rabbit Diesel, and an '87 5Ks). Both cars used
FRAM filters exclusively (air, oil) from the date I bought each with
60K on the odometer. Neither car burned a drop more oil at 250K
than they did when I bought them. I change my oil religiously
with Castrol 20W-50 every 4K miles or every 5K miles in the
winter with Mobil 1 (5-15)W-50. My miles have been almost
exclusively highway. Exeter to Boston commute now.
3. When I go to the NE Ferrari meet every year in Brookline Mass
every damn Ferrari is sporting the orange and black FRAM.....
including the California Spyder.
4. This just makes me feel better: I have known two former VPs of
FRAM as neighbors and friends...they REALLY believed in their
products (remember, they were friends).
5. PROVE to me that other companies never make mistakes (re:
comments about nasty FRAMS on the shelf) and that MANNs
are "vastly" superior and I'll listen.
The proof as they say is in the pudding...and FRAM has kept my cars free
of "pudding" in the oil and air...it doesn't hurt that they are $2.50 a
piece at
the local dept. store on sale. Personally, I'd get nervous without that
Halloween colored coffee can attached to my motors.
THAT HAVING BEEN SAID: My latest aquisition, a 1990 90Q20v appears
to be burning (losing) about 1/2-2/3 quart every 2K miles..is
this "normal?" Please..no jokes about having a crappy filter!
Very Truly Yours,
Paul Royal
