gawd help 'em... Getrag makes the trannys for BMW motorcycles. Two words
come to mind here.

    bulletproof, yet clunky (3, I lied)

There was a writeup in BMWMOA magazine about them which described in
great detail the lengths they had gone to to actually _increase_ the
clunky feel. In particular, they were describing the downshift into
first gear and their wanting to make it more _positive_. They described
how the gear slid on the various shaft, etc. Somewhat dry, but certainly
humorous.

The trannys do work and you can really jam them into gear. After all,
you have to.

the tranny in the Stealth isn't sequential, is it?

Hey:

I have a BMW K1100LT and the tranny is awesome, that is when you remember to keep pressure on the peg when you let the clutch out.  Otherwise you wind up going nowhere with some serious revs.  It's not like a rice burner.... click and go, you need to stay awake.

Ditto Glen.  As the guy in Johnny Dangerously said, "Once my dad and I 
thought we could make from NJ to MA through the Cross-Bronx Expressway 
with a bubble in a sidewall.  Once!"

BTW, since you have NY plates, the CBE gets my vote as the scariest 
non-racetrack place in the Universe to have a blowout or mechanical 
problem.  That five-mile stretch is a no-man's land. I think they've 
repaved it, but for a while, the roadway resembled one of Saddam's 
runways during Desert Srorm, complete with the burned-out shells of dead 
vehicles. There are signs on the road every few hundred yards that say 
something like "no stopping except for emergency vehicles" because local 
banditos hover like vultures to pick disabled cars clean there.  

Once a friend of my Dad's got shanghaied there.  A few minutes after 
pulling over, some unsavory dudes in a van roll up and jump out. He was 
under the hood with a flashlight, and they politely inform him, "Don't 
worry man, you can have the motor -- WE JUST WANT THE BATTERY!!".  He 
informed them that it was "HIS CAR!" and they graciously moved on.  Hope 
you have a cell phone and a BFG-9000 (wide-area mass destruction weapon 
from the game DOOM) if you ever get stuck there :-).

I decided to change my wife and keep the tire.

By the way, I'm a Bronx Baby originally.  I bet all you wimps roll up the window and look straight ahead the minute you get on the croos bronx xway.

Also, most of the guys I know would have had the car.
