Hi Riasat,

Skimming the thead generally only needs doing when your car has blown its
head gasket, warping the head. Smoky engines are generally due to worn
valve stem seals (most common) or worn piston rings or in extreme cases,
worn cylinder bores.

You don't mention in your mail how much your car's total mileage is, but
since Audi engines are generally very sturdy and don't wear easily, I
suspect you can get away with renewing the valve stem seals. I'm not sure
you can do this yourself easily, but with the right tools this shouldn't be
too expensive a job.
