Ignition stays on

My wife's '86 5kTQW with nearly 200,000 kms failed to turn off
with the key yesterday.  After I snuffed it in first gear, all
the dash lights stayed lit, albeit somewhat dimmer than when the
key was turned to on.  It still started and seemed to run fine,
but wouldn't shut off.

I unplugged the battery over night.  When I reconnected this
morning, the ignition at first didn't come on, but after a 
normal start-up, it wouldn't shut off again.

I don't think its the ignition switch.  Anyone seen this one?
